Reflexology is a form of bodywork that focuses primarily on the feet. The underlying theory in reflexology is that there are “reflex” zones on the feet which correspond to specific organs, glands and other parts of the body. By applying pressure to these reflex areas can stimulate and promote health in the corresponding organs through energetic pathways, called Meridians.
Although reflexology is not used to diagnose or cure, it can provide relief for many acute and chronic health conditions. Many people use it to complement other treatments when addressing conditions like stress, anxiety, cancer treatment, migraine and headaches, kidney function, menopausal symptoms, PMS, poor digestion and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Reflexology can help to rebalance the body’s mechanisms to ensure optimum performance which can result in an increase in energy and help to prevent illness.
How often do I need to come?
If you have a specific issue that you are hoping to address with reflexology then it is highly likely that you will need a course of treatment. Generally I find that people need an initial 4 treatments, this is because reflexology has a cumulative effect so each treatment builds on the benefits felt from the previous one. Ideally, weekly treatments (if possible) to start off with are most beneficial so that we can build on the positive effects of the previous treatment instead of starting from square one each time we see each other. After a period of time (usually 4-6 weeks) treatments can be spaced out to fortnightly and then to monthly and then to as and when you feel the need to come. |
